About Me
I’m Shalise Barnes, the founder of Project Artemis. I help owners and investors find distinctive Mediterranean properties and to assist them to realise their full potential.
My experience spans historic restorations, boutique accommodation and operating short-term rentals in Malta, alongside property and hospitality advisory work in Sicily.
I connect the most critical decisions of the property purchase process: what to buy, what to restore, where to invest and how the finished property will work for both guests and owners.
Awards
“Shalise is more than a professional of the highest-caliber, she is a star. Truly talented at what she does.”
“The more I’ve lived in this apartment, the more I’ve grown to love it and call it my home”.
I studied fine art and architectural history in Paris before founding Artemis Interior Design in Malta in 2018.
Since then, I’ve designed residential interiors, developed holiday rentals and gained first-hand experience of what happens between buying a property and welcoming the first guest.
My projects include a historic farmhouses, palazzi turned into themed guest houses, and many personal character homes.
I’m based in Sicily, helping buyers explore their plans here and in Puglia. My work combines an eye for what a building could become with an understanding of the budget and practical work involved.

Design Philosophy
I’m drawn to historic buildings because of what’s already there: stone, old timber, unusual proportions and traces of the lives they’ve held.
My aim is to preserve that character while making the property comfortable and useful for its next chapter.
My designs are often rooted in the idea of historic fantasy, taking inspiration from a building’s past and imagining how its story might continue. I bring together traditional materials, contemporary comforts and unexpected details to create spaces that feel layered, expressive and full of life.
